Sheet parts, materials, and grain

Make imported sheet parts nest-ready with cut faces, thickness-group materials, grain, and focused review.

One material assignment readies a thickness group

In Parts, CutCAD groups sheet bodies by normalized thickness. Assign a common preset, matching Pro Inventory material, or custom material to each group; every valid part in that group becomes nest-ready unless it has an explicit per-part override.

  • Common presets include MDF, Baltic Birch, Oak, Cherry, Walnut, and Maple.
  • Inventory choices appear only when the user has Workbench Pro and the stock thickness matches.
  • Open an individual part to override its material, cut face, or grain without changing the whole group.

Automatic setup chooses a useful cut face

CutCAD considers only the two opposing panel faces. It prefers the face carrying source machining; when neither face has machining, it uses the larger broad face. Through holes count as features on both opposing faces.

  • Explicit imported grain metadata wins first.
  • Front, door, and drawer-front roles lock grain vertically.
  • Unconstrained internal parts can use Any to improve material yield.
